Getting started
How Pixigns fits together, and your first sign on a TV in five steps.
How Pixigns fits together
Pixigns has two parts:
- The player, a small box that sits behind your TVs. It plugs into one TV, or two side by side, and plays your slides full screen. It keeps a checked copy of everything on it, so your TVs keep playing when the internet drops.
- Your business's address, such as
yourbusiness.pixigns.com, where you and your team make slides and decide what each TV shows. It works in any web browser, on a computer or a phone. There's nothing to install.
Each player is one screen in Pixigns, whether it drives one TV or two. A screen plays a playlist: slides in order, each shown for a few seconds before the next. You can give each screen its own playlist, share one across many, and switch playlists by time of day.
Nothing you change reaches the TVs until you publish it. That way you can work on a playlist for as long as you like, preview it, and send it to the screens when it's ready.
Your first sign in five steps
- Get a player. Each player is $300, shipping included, and runs one TV or two side by side. Order a player.
- Plug it in. Connect it to your TV with an HDMI cable, to the internet, and to power. After a minute the TV shows an 8-character code and a QR code. See Set up your player.
- Create your business. Scan the QR code on the TV with your phone and follow the steps below. This adds your first screen too.
- Make a playlist. Start from a template, or from your own pictures and videos. See Playlists and slides.
- Publish. Press Publish and your TV picks up the playlist within about 15 seconds.
Create your business
A new business starts from its first screen. With the player plugged in and the code showing on the TV:
- Scan the QR code on the TV with your phone's camera, and choose to start a new business.
- Type your business's name, choose its address and pick its time zone. The address becomes
<address>.pixigns.com, so use lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens only. If someone else has it, or Pixigns uses it itself (likewww), you'll be asked to pick another. - Type your email address, then the 6-digit code we email you. There's no password to remember.
- Name the screen after where it is, like Counter or Front Window, and create the business.
You'll see Counter is added (with your screen's name), and you're the business's owner.
The time zone matters: schedules, opening hours, TV power times and countdowns all follow your business's clock, wherever you happen to be when you set them. You can change it later in Settings.
Signing in
Go to your business's address and sign in with either:
- An email code. Type your email, then the 6-digit code we send. If it doesn't arrive, you can send a new one after a minute.
- Continue with Google, if your email is a Google account.
Only people who have been invited to the business can sign in. To bring in your team, see People and roles. If you've forgotten your business's address, go to app.pixigns.com/find. It's also in every email we've sent you.
Find your way around
The bar down the left side of the admin (a row across the top on a phone) has a section for each part of Pixigns:
| Section | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Screens | Your players: whether each is online, what it plays, its TVs and its schedule. Also groups and locations. |
| Playlists | Your playlists and their slides, music and publishing. |
| Design | Templates, your own designs and your brand kit. On Basic and Premium. |
| Media | Your library: pictures, videos, songs, documents and live content. |
| Menus | Menu boards, their prices and what's sold out. |
| People | Who can sign in, and what each person can do. |
| Settings | Your business, your own account, billing and the activity log. |
Along the top are Publish, which sends every changed playlist to the screens at once, and Post a Message, which puts an urgent message over your screens.
Until you're set up, a Get started bar across the top tracks three steps: Add a screen, Create a playlist, and Add slides and publish. Its button takes you to the next one. Press Hide if you don't need it, and it goes away by itself once all three are done.
A few words you'll see
- Screen: one player, with the one or two TVs it drives.
- Playlist: slides in order, plus optional background music. Screens play playlists.
- Slide: what's on the TVs for a few seconds: a picture, a video, a menu, a clock, or several at once in zones.
- Draft: your changes, before you publish them. Only you and your team see drafts.
- Publish: send a playlist's draft to every screen that plays it. Each publish is kept as a version you can go back to.
- Default playlist: what a screen plays when nothing else has been chosen for it.
- Location and group: ways to set what many screens play at once. See Groups and locations.
