Add a screen
Pair a player with your business using the code or QR code on the TV.
A player that isn't part of a business yet shows Add this screen in your signage admin on its TV, with an 8-character code like ABCD-EFGH and a QR code. Adding it links that player to your business, so it plays your playlists. There are two ways to do it: scan the QR code with your phone, or type the code in the admin.
Owners and editors can add screens. Not seeing the code yet? Start with Set up your player.
The code changes every 15 minutes. If it changes while you're typing, use the new one on the TV. It's the same player either way.
Scan the QR code
- Point your phone's camera at the QR code on the TV and open the link. You'll see Add this screen, with the code already filled in.
- Under Which business is it for?, choose:
- A business I already have. Type the first part of the address you sign in at (for
corner-cafe.pixigns.com, typecorner-cafe) and press Continue. Your phone remembers it, so the next screen is one tap. - A new business. This sets up your business and adds this screen as its first. See Create your business.
- A business I already have. Type the first part of the address you sign in at (for
- Sign in if you're asked to.
- Give the screen a name your team will recognize, like Front counter, Window, Menu board or Waiting area, and press Add Screen.
You'll see Front counter is added (with your screen's name), and the TV says it's ready. It starts playing as soon as you publish a playlist for it: press Create a playlist to make one now.
Forgotten your business's address? Tap Forgot your address?, or look in any email we've sent you.
Type the code in the admin
- Sign in at your business's address on any computer or phone, go to Screens and press Add Screen. If you have no screens yet, it opens by itself.
- Code: under What code is on the TV?, type the 8 characters on the TV. The dash is added for you, and capitals don't matter. Press Next.
- Name: under What should this screen be called?, give it a name (up to 80 characters). Optionally choose a Location, or type a new one, like Main street. Press Next.
- Playlist: under What should it play?, choose one:
- A new playlist, which you make next. The New Playlist wizard opens, named for this screen.
- Your default playlist, the one every screen without its own plays.
- Any other playlist. One that isn't published yet plays once you publish it.
- Press Add Screen. You'll see Front counter added. (with its name), and the TV picks it up within about 15 seconds.
You can change the name, the location and the playlist any time. See Manage your screens.
What a new screen plays
A screen plays its own playlist if you gave it one; otherwise its group's, then its location's, then your business's default playlist. Your first playlist becomes the default by itself. See Groups and locations.
A new screen starts with the same TVs as your screen with the most TVs: one TV or two, landscape or portrait. If this one is different, change it in its details under TVs. See Manage your screens.
Replace a player
If a player stops working and you get a new one (or a new memory card for it), don't add it as a new screen. Replace the old one instead, so the new player takes over the screen's name, playlist, TVs and schedules.
- Set up the new player until its TV shows a code.
- In the admin, go to Screens, open the old screen, and find Replace. Type the code on the new TV and press Replace.
- Confirm Move. The old player stops playing if it's still on, and you'll see Front counter now plays on the new device.
From your phone, you can scan the new player's QR code instead: choose Replacing a screen, pick the screen it replaces, and press Replace with that screen's name. You'll see that the screen is back.
Wi-Fi is set up on the new player itself, as in Set up your player.
Remove a screen
Open the screen in Screens, press Remove at the bottom of its details, and confirm. It stops playing at once, forgets your business's content and shows a new code, ready to be added again, to your business or another one. You'll see Removed Front counter.
On the Basic and Premium plans you're billed for each screen, so removing one you no longer use lowers your bill. See Plans and billing.
If something goes wrong
| You see | What to do |
|---|---|
| That code didn't work. Check the code on the screen; codes last 15 minutes. | Check the code against the TV: it may have changed since you started. Codes use the letters A to Z and the numbers 2 to 9, so a 0 is an O and a 1 is an I. Then try again with the code that's on the TV now. |
| Too many wrong codes. Wait 15 minutes and try again. | After 10 wrong codes in 15 minutes, codes are refused for a while. Wait, then type the code carefully, or scan the QR code instead. |
| The Free plan covers one screen. An owner can choose a plan in Settings, under Billing, or remove a screen. | An owner chooses Basic or Premium in Settings, under Billing, then you add the screen again. See Plans and billing. |
| The TV shows Wi-Fi setup or “Can't reach the internet” instead of a code | The player isn't online yet. See If Wi-Fi doesn't connect. |
| The TV still shows the code after you added it | Give it up to 15 seconds. If it stays, check that the code you typed was the one on this TV, and that you added it to the right business. |
| No Add Screen button | Viewers can't add screens. Ask an owner or an editor, or ask an owner to change your role. See People and roles. |
